There's not a person in the IT industry who hasn't daydreamed about what it might be like to sit in the CEO's chair at Microsoft. (Except Steve Ballmer, of course. He's already sitting there.) VMworld 2008: VMware ESX 4.0 Coming Soon?

Alessandro Perilli over at Virtualization.info authored an interesting blog post before the start of VMworld 2008, including some speculation on his part that the next-generation of VMware's ESX hypervisor -- ESX 4.0 -- may possibly be announced at the show. Tech Ed 2008--Microsoft IT Eats Its Own Dogfood

Had a great conversation at Tech Ed with Barry Briggs, the Director of IT at Microsoft, about a classic Microsoft topic—eating your own dogfood. Basically, Briggs’s internal IT group runs prerelease versions of Microsoft products and files bug reports and provides other feedback. Microsoft has a history of putting prerelease software into production use at the company to work through tough problems at the enterprise level. Troubleshooting a Slow-Running Windows Server 2008

We are in the middle of a major upgrade project for a new client. The client has two VMware ESX host servers running a variety of virtual server guests, including two domain controllers (DCs), File Server, Exchange Server 2007, SQL Server 2005, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 and Terminal Server. All servers are running Windows Server 2008 as the base OS with a mix of x86 and x64. All the servers were prepped for an initial Exchange cut over last Friday. What a Paradox Can Tell IT Pros

Back in the 1930s, a scientist named Sir James Gray did extensive research on the muscle power of dolphins and concluded that 20 miles per hour was their top speed. Cloud Computing: Future or Farce?

PDF Attack Via Javascript Injection

I ran across an interesting javascript injection attack that targets Wordpress. Tracking it down won't be easy for the laymen. The reason is because most people who work with Wordpress are only savvy enough to handle themes and plugins. The rarely go poking around in the core code base. Plus when you find foreign javascript inside one of your Web pages a lot of site developers and admins will think it must be coming from a modified theme file or plugin. As a security administrator you do have to assume that “they are all out to get you”. Not you specifically, but the resources it is your responsibility to manage. They aren’t doing this because you are guarding the crown jewels of Denmark. Attackers are trying every doorknob on the street hoping to find one unlocked, not just trying the ones where they suspect there is a brand new LCD TV. As a good security administrator you need to be systematic with your paranoia. Not only do you have to catalog the threats you face, you need to analyze and prioritize those threats. Before I go any further I’ll point out that I write Self Paced Training Kits for Microsoft, so there is a bit of an incentive for me to push one method over the other.
