VMware has sent word that they've released VMware Fusion 2 Beta 2, the latest update to their popular virtualization product for the Apple Macintosh. According to Pat Lee, VMware's group manager of consumer products, the overriding goal for this latest update was to "give Mac users a more complete and compelling virtualization experience."
The success of products like VMware Fusion (and Parallels Desktop) helps underscore the role that virtualization is playing in driving Mac adoption, allowing Mac users to run most Windows applications without having to buy a PC. Virtualization is also helping push more Macs into the enterprise, and is undoubtedly contributing to Apple's recent market share gains.
VMware Fusion 2 Beta 2 introduces a number of new features, including Unity 2.0, enchanced VM security, tweaked 3D and video options, and support for up to four virtual CPUs on a single VM. There are a host of other new features, all explained in more detail in the latest VMware Fusion release notes.
