This morning's news out of the TechEd 2008 Developer Conference includes Microsoft's announcement of the availability of Windows Embedded Standard community technology preview (CTP) today. Microsoft says it plans to RTM the product later this year in Q3.
Windows Embedded Standard is an OS product designed for OEMs who incorporate it into their hardware. The product drives managed and secure thin clients in kiosks and other point of service devices.
Windows Embedded Standard features include support for Microsoft Silverlight (for an enhanced visual experience for users); Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11 (for an enhanced UI and media experience); Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1 and Network Access Protection (to connect with Windows Vista PCs and take advantage of Windows Server 2008 security and management technologies).
In addition, Windows Embedded Standard includes componentized drivers for Intel’s latest x86 processor architectures.
